Questions

Financial Statements & Reporting FAQs

11 answers to the questions clients ask us most. Don't see yours? Ask us directly.

Ask a question

What is the difference between a compilation, review and audit?

A compilation presents your financial information in statement form without assurance. A review provides limited assurance, and an audit provides reasonable assurance. Reviews and audits must be performed by a licensed CPA firm, and we can coordinate with one when you need them.

How often should I get financial statements?

Monthly for most growing businesses, and at least quarterly.

Can you help build a budget?

Yes. We build budgets and forecasts from your actual results.

Do lenders require CPA-prepared statements?

It depends on the lender and loan size. Smaller loans may accept internally prepared statements, while larger facilities often require reviewed or audited statements from a licensed CPA firm.

GAAP or tax basis?

Statements can be prepared under generally accepted accounting principles or a special-purpose framework such as the tax or cash basis. We use the framework your lender or investors expect.

Which KPIs should I track?

It depends on your business, but gross margin, operating cash flow, days sales outstanding and revenue per employee are common starting points.

How soon after month-end can I get statements?

Once the books are closed. With monthly bookkeeping in place, that is usually within a few weeks.

Can you prepare a loan package?

Yes. We assemble statements, projections and supporting schedules in the format lenders ask for.

Which accounting software do you support?

QuickBooks Online and Xero most often, along with common payroll, bill pay and e-commerce tools.

Can we start partway through the year?

Yes. We bring the books up to date from the start of the year, then continue monthly.

How do we communicate with you?

By email, our client portal and scheduled calls. You have a named contact who knows your business.
